Rights and Responsibilities

Rights

Student organizations are recognized, after registration, on the assumption that their activities and programs contribute to the educational, professional, civic, and social development of the students involved. Neither the student organization nor its representatives may suggest that either is acting with authority or as an agent of ذكذكتسئµ University. Student organizations have the following rights:

  • Use of the ذكذكتسئµ University name as part of the student organization's formal name, specifically at the end of the organization’s name.
    Example: "The Chess Club at ذكذكتسئµ University"
  • Use of the ذكذكتسئµ University trademarks, in accordance with Licensing Guidelines.
  • The right to recruit new members from the ذكذكتسئµ University community.
  • The services of the Office of Student Organization Services, including assistance in planning, carrying out, and evaluating activities and programs, club accounting, and assistance in making the organization more effective and efficient.
  • The right to hold events and the use of university facilities, via reservation requests on LU Hub.
  • Invitation of off-campus speakers and artists to appear for scheduled meetings and assemblies, subject to scheduling in accordance with the Off-Campus Speaker Policy.
  • Distribution of literature relating to the organization's purpose and activities in those areas authorized by the Posting Policy.
  • Sponsorship of profit-making activities and solicitation of funds for organizational activities in accordance with the Financial Policy.
  • The right to apply for Co-Sponsorship Funding.
  • The right to be listed as a Recognized Student Organization.
  • Use of storage lockers in the Student Organization Workroom.
  • Use of the Student Organization Services PO Box for the receipt of mail.

Responsibilities

Student organizations are held responsible for the following:

  • Managing and carrying out activities within their own constitution; local, state, and federal laws; and university rules and regulations, including the Student Organization Policies.
  • Conducting fiscal operations in accordance with the Financial Policy, including the elimination of non-LU financial accounts, except where required by a national association.
  • Conducting in-person operations on-campus in accordance with the Event Services Policies, including submitting all reservations through LU Hub.
  • Prevent engagement in or encouragement of hazing, as defined in ,  and in the Hazing Policy.
