  • Committee was asked to assist in prioritizing parking lots that need the most attention for repair and replacement.

A spreadsheet with the inventory of all parking lots was distributed at the last meeting.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Parking violation appeals process.

Hand out the APRIL APPEALS and asked to return them to Diane Drawhorn’s 0ffice on or before APRIL 24, 2019.

  • LiveSafe Tip

There has been an anonymous tip via LiveSafe regarding issues of speeding and going the wrong way in the Senior (C-1 Lot)  A suggestion was made to post speed limit signs (see Regulations VI. B. 1. Maximum speed in parking lots is 10 mph unless otherwise posted), install speed bumps in each row, Crosswalk Signs and have arrows showing the flow of traffic.

Mr. Ness VP F&0, has directed the facilities and parking office to proceed with refreshing the painted directional arrows on the parking lot. No crosswalk signs will be installed since there aren’t any designated crosswalks and no speed bumps will be installed.

  • Open comments from the committee members.

Updates from last month’s meeting:

At the last meeting…Mark Broome brought up that he noticed a lot of the appeals deal with students who were cited for parking in the C-1 Senior Student Lot.  Discussion was open to the committee and it was suggested that Diane Drawhorn send out a communication via Black Board to all students reminding them that they cannot park in the C-1 lot between the hours of 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon unless they are a senior with 105 hours.

Lt. Brent Sonnier made an inspection of C-1 and it was determined to cease issuing citations in reserved spaces due to the quality of the designated signage painted on the lot spaces.  As soon as the signs are renewed citations will be reinstated.

Chief Flores discussed the possibility of removing the iron post gates and removing them on the roads that access Gentry and Morris Halls along with the entry roads to Monroe and Campbell.  Chief Flores said he considered the roads to Gentry and Morris the most important.

The committee was also updated on Busses parking in the C-1 lot when bringing students from surrounding area schools to events in the Setzer Center. It was noted that the event planners have been informed that busses were NOT to park in C-1 after delivering passengers to the Setzer Center.  After drop off the busses are to park in the A-2 or A-5 athletic lots.  The bus drivers can be notified by cell phone when the attendees are ready for pick up.  Diane Drawhorn asked the Police to monitor Busses parking in C-1 and have the Campus Safety Officers tell the buss drivers to move out of C-1 and park in A-2 or A-5.

  • Next meeting will be June 13, 2019 at 1:30 PM in the Plummer Conference Room 102

Introducing a New Webinar:

Transportation & Traffic Policies for Pedestrians, Drivers & Electric/Motorized Device Operators:
Create Protocols to Keep Your Community Members Safe

Wednesday, June 19th • 2-3:30 pm (ET)

Managing pedestrian, vehicle, bicycle traffic and other transportation modes continues to cause headaches for many campus safety professionals. Scooters, hoverboards, and Segways have added an additional concern and confusion in recent years — although they provide convenience to students, the potential safety and accessibility issues pose challenges for college officials.

Gather your colleagues and join us on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 to hear expert presenter Tony Callisto — Senior VP for Safety & Chief Law Enforcement Officer for Syracuse University — discuss proactive planning and safety enforcement strategies regarding traffic, bicycle, pedestrian, bus/shuttle and other transportation devices so you can reduce your overall risk. He will help you refine your current policies, manage motorized and electric transportation devices, and develop a process for evaluating and determining regulations or prohibitions regarding new transportation technologies as they emerge.

You'll be able to engage proactive strategies for interacting and engaging with campus constituents regarding pedestrian, vehicle, bicycle, and other transportation device traffic safety so you can foster a mutually beneficial relationship and safe experience for all community members.

Participation Outcomes

As a result of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Develop and refine your pedestrian, vehicle, bicycle, and other transportation device traffic safety plan — reduce your risk and help keep all of your community members safe.
  • Identify a minimum of two different approaches to managing electric or motorized transposition devices — reduce headaches for administrators while still allowing convenience for students.
  • Create an educational and training program that allows your safety officers to interact and engage with campus constituents — provide opportunities for your team to interact in a positive way with the individuals who use motorized, electric, and other modes of transportation on campus to educate them on safety issues, proper locking devices and use on campus.
