Dr. L. Kay Abernathy serves as an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at ذكذكتسئµ University. As a pre-K - 12 educator, she served in three Texas school districts where she held positions as teacher, instructional technology specialist, technology director, vocational director and independent national consultant. Dr. Abernathy received her doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in educational supervision from LU. The Texas Computer Education Association awarded her the Lifetime Achievement of Technology in Education in 2013.
In addition, Dr. Abernathy served as the assistant director for professional development at the Texas Education Network for The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Abernathy is the past President of the Texas Computer Education Association; a Christa McAuliffe Fellow, National Education Association Foundation; and a former member of the Consortium for School Networking Board of Directors. She was also the team initiator and developer for the Brazos-Sabine Connection Project, which was awarded $13 million in Texas Education Agency grants for technology integration professional development over a period of 10 years working with over 20 school districts.
