Accommodations and Services

ARC Feature PhotoStudents with disabilities may experience barriers that can limit their access to university courses and university-sponsored activities. The Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) works to ensure equal opportunities for students with disabilities, including, but not limited to, individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired, have a specific learning/intellectual disability, ADHD/ADD, PTSD, traumatic brain injury or physical disability. 

Accommodations are modifications, individualized to disability-related barriers for equitable access.  Accommodations must be reasonable to the university’s program and cannot create a fundamental alteration of the program or lower essential standards. Below are examples of ARC accommodations that may be assigned to students:

The ARC assigns accommodations and services through an interactive process with the student.  Accommodations are individualized in response to the student's disability-related functional limitations and the course or program. Once an accommodation is assigned, the student must select their accommodation(s) for each registered class in the ARC's electronic system. Accommodations start with faculty notification once the student completes this selection process each semester. Accommodations are never retroactive. 

All students, including those with disabilities, must take primary responsibility for their success in postsecondary education. Federal regulations facilitate an accommodation process for an equitable learning opportunity, but do not guarantee that students will achieve success. Students should familiarize themselves with applicable policies and processes related to accommodations.
