Department of Theatre and Dance presents world premiere of So You Can Look Ahead

The Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to present the world premiere of “So You Can Look So You Can Look AheadAhead” on Nov. 4-7 in the Studio Theatre located on the campus of ذكذكتسئµ University. “So You Can Look Ahead,” the second performance of the semester, is written and directed by guest artist Edward Morgan.

“So You Can Look Ahead” is set in New York City, 1932. A time of social upheaval and anti-immigrant fervor. A young couple's marriage is thrown into turmoil over a pregnant immigrant girl, a prestigious job and the powerful eugenics movement. A little-known chapter of American history that resonates today.

"’So You Can Look Ahead’ speaks to America’s ongoing conflicts over race, immigration and intolerance from all sides of the political spectrum. I don’t think there are any easy answers, but I do think we’ve yet to fully uproot the lie of eugenics,” said Morgan. “Most of us don’t even realize how much eugenics was woven into the fabric of American life."

Morgan, who comes to us from New York, has directed more than 100 productions and written 12 plays. He has worked in theatres and universities across the USA and in several other countries including India, Bulgaria, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. Morgan is a Fulbright scholar and serves as a casting partner for Cirque du Soleil.

"The premiere of a new play is a special event for a playwright: it’s like bringing a new baby into the world. The cast, crew and designers here have done a terrific job and I’m really grateful for their talent and hard work."

“So You Can Look Ahead” showtimes begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday performance begins at 2 p.m. Ticket prices range from $7-$15 and are available for purchase now at lamar.edu/lutdtix.
