Jordan Curl awarded $8,500 Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship

one of 58 recipients nationwide to receive a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship.

Although Curl began his college career as a nursing student, he changed his major to biology on a pre-med track when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer his freshman year. He graduated in May with his Bachelor of Science in biology and will pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.

During his undergraduate career at LU, Curl held leadership positions in Alpha Tau Omega, the Student Government Association, Greek Council, the Ultimate Frisbee Club ذكذكتسئµ, Dance Marathon, and he was an LU Ambassador. He was named a Mirabeau scholar and a Senior of Significance.

Also, while attending LU, Curl assisted Dr. Ian Lian with his cancer research efforts studying the effects of substrate stiffness, as well as various chemotherapy drugs on cancer cell migration. Curl’s cancer research projects included a Reaud Honors College Summer Research Fellowship at the University of California-San Diego Guan Lab and a SURF Fellowship at LU’s Botany Lab.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. The selection process for a fellowship is based on the applicant's evidence of graduate potential, undergraduate academic achievement, service and leadership experience, letters of recommendation, personal statement of educational perspective and career goals and acceptance in an approved graduate or professional program.
