Yesenia Loera-Romo, recipient of prestigious business scholarship
The has named Yesenia Loera-Romo, senior economics and finance major, as a recipient of the 2020 TBHF Future Texas Business Legend Scholarship.
Each year the TBHF Foundation presents scholar awards to students from participating Texas universities. The mission of the distinction is to acknowledge and encourage future business leaders and entrepreneurs. TBHF awards students based on their entrepreneurial aspirations and achievements and their propensity for campus leadership.
“I am extremely grateful because I believe gratitude is important for success,” said Loera-Romo. “All of the individuals who interviewed and selected me were accomplished and outstanding people, so I’m honored people as successful as they are believe I can be a future Texas legend. Also, because I went against some strong candidates from LU. When we were notified we were finalists, we knew it would be well deserved no matter who won.”
Loera-Romo will graduate in May 2021 but plans to finish her M.B.A. before joining the workforce as a professional. She has worked in the restaurant industry since she was 15 and believes her work ethic contributed to her selection.
“I think I was selected because of my outgoing personality, my confidence – because I believe I could start a business – and because of how long I’ve been working for myself and to better myself as an individual,” said Loera-Romo. “Everyone I competed with was an excellent candidate, but I think my work set me apart.”
Students can use the TBHF funds however they choose. Loera-Romo will use the seed money to start her first business. “I plan to invest the money directly into the business that I start,” said Loera-Romo. “Not as early as tomorrow because I plan to finish my M.B.A., then I’ll work and continue to raise capital to start a tiny house 3-D company.”
ذكذكتسئµ University’s participation in the Texas Business Hall of Fame scholarship program is made possible through the Hall of Fame’s Ben J. Rogers Scholarship, endowed by Regina Rogers, daughter of Ben Rogers.
“It’s a great honor just to be selected and interviewed as a finalist and even more of an honor to be a part of the Texas Business Hall of Fame network,” said Loera-Romo. “I’m grateful to the College of Business, the Career & Professional Development Center who helped me with mock interviews and all the faculty who worked with me for this amazing opportunity.”
