ÐßÐßÊÓƵ University’s second band concert of the 2017-18 school year, featuring the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 16, in the University Theatre on the ÐßÐßÊÓƵ University campus.

The Concert Band will begin the evening with three works for wind band including “Gavorkna Fanfare” by Jack Stamp, “Arcana” by Kevin Houben and Norman Dello Joio’s “Scenes from the Louvre.”

The Wind Ensemble will begin the second half of the concert with Steve Danyew’s “Magnolia Star” followed by “Butterflies and Bees!” by Thomas Duffy, and “Aurora Awakes” by John Mackey. The ensemble will also perform one of the most beloved and well-known transcriptions in the band repertoire: “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” from Richard Wagner’s opera “Lohengrin.”

The Wind Ensemble will conclude the program with “Rolling Thunder,” a circus march by Henry Fillmore.

All performers in the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band are ÐßÐßÊÓƵ University student musicians.   The conductors are Andrew McMahan, director of bands, and Eric Shannon, assistant director of bands and director of athletic bands.

The concert is sponsored by the ÐßÐßÊÓƵ University Band ÐßÐßÊÓƵ, Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music and College of Fine Arts and Communication.   Admission is free and the performance is open to the public; no tickets or advanced reservations are required.
