Minutes for CID Meeting Oct 28, 2020 3:30-5:00pm via TEAMS

Attendees: Brenda Nichols, Jeremy Alltop, Liv Haselbach, Ken Aung, Golden Wright, Stefan Andrei, Brian Shook, Jim Sanderson, Phil Cole, Diane Clark, Natalie Tindall, Donna Meeks, Ozge Gunaydin-Sen, Rebecca Boone, Jill Killough, Johnny O’Connor, Golden Wright, Randall Terry, Marleen Swerdlow, Freddie Titus, T.C. Ho

  1. Dr. Brenda Nichols and Jeremy Alltop presented on various topics including
    • Classroom sizing and issues which decreased funding due to poor space allocation. They will slowly go building to building to see what classroom space may be optimized, repurposed or modified, etc. Some ideas for repurposing include student meeting/lounge spaces, gender neutral ADA restrooms, new mother rooms. Attached are the SUE figures of days/times classes are held from 2017 to 2019. Note the uneven distribution. Anything your department/school can do to even these out more is appreciated.
    • Class times in the spring are modified for 10 minutes between classes which is the standard at most Texas institutions. Longer times seriously decrease funding as being part of space allocation calculations.
    • In order to facilitate continual input on any proposed policy changes, etc. from academic affairs a new website has been developed. The link to the site and some screenshots of how one can provide input is attached in the word document. These are being reviewed with the University Faculty Handbook Advisory Committee. In the future there will be a Faculty Handbook and an associated “MAPP” similar to how there are handbook appendices now. (MAPP: Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures)      I recommend that you copy the link and put it on your calendar to check monthly to be well informed!
    • There was also mention of the EPass system being piloted this spring to reduce paperwork and improve efficiency for systems such as F3.2s.
  2. Items tabled till future meetings:
    1. 2020/2021 CID committee liaisons please briefly update the CID on what transpires in these committees. (A sentence to put in the minutes would be appreciated!)
    2. Discuss topics for future meetings.
    3. Still need to discuss about Directors of Schools and the CID membership in the bylaws.
