The LU Green Squad and LU Sustainability Advisory Committee are hosting two days of recycling this week on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. Please come when it's convenient and be festive, enjoy pizza and a DJ. Bring sorted plastics (#1-2), cardboard, cans and flexible plastics. Volunteers are welcome. Join us!

Captain's Kickoff For Lupus Foundation

Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The Lupus Foundation is hosting its "Captain's Kickoff" event. There will be a ribbon cutting by the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, followed by food, drinks, and music. It's a great time to come out and hear what the walk is about, join or create a team for the walk, or sign up to volunteer.

Cardinal Care First Gen Resource Fair

The purpose of this event is to provide students with information on how to prepare for finals, study tips, self-care awareness, campus resources, and more. Different departments from across the campus will be there. There will be lots of giveaways. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Love in Lavender: The LGBTQ+ History of Southeast Texas with Cassandre Broussard

Date: Thursday, Nov. 7, 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Location: Dishman Art Museum

Cassandre Broussard will share the results of her research gathering interviews and documenting the history of the LGBTQ+ communities in Southeast Texas. She is a lecturer in history at ذكذكتسئµ University and 2022-2023 Research Fellow of the Center for History and Culture. More information can be found here.

Come celebrate LU's JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing (JGDSON) 50th-year Open House. The JGDSON faculty and staff are offering an open house of the building with options to tour the updated skills labs and state-of-the-art High Fidelity Simulation Center. Cake and punch will be offered. No reservations required.

Mental Health & Violence Symposium

Date: Saturday, Nov. 9, 2 - 4 p.m.
Location: Reaud Honors College

Dr. Mary Breaux from Sam Houston State University will visit ذكذكتسئµ University to discuss mental health and violence. She will be joined by campus police to discuss measures being taken to keep campus safe.

5k Madd
2024 Walk Like MADD Beaumont

Date: Saturday, Nov. 9, 7:30 a.m. - Noon
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

Race start: 9 a.m.
Fire Truck Pull: 10:30 a.m.

Free to Spectators. The event is MADD's signature fundraising event to help raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. We hope that you will rally with us in Beaumont.

We'll show you how to use AI tools to seek useful writing feedback on your end-of-term writing, and our humans will also work with you in virtual breakout sessions. Faculty are welcome. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Library Renovation Site Closures

Starting Monday, Nov. 11, Turner Construction will begin installation of the fence that will enclose the job site for the library renovation. Pedestrian circulation immediately around the library will be impacted accordingly, but access to all adjacent buildings will remain. A covered pedestrian walkway will be installed at the main entrance to the library to provide continued access into the building during Phase I. 

The fence for Phase I is expected to be in place through July 2025. At that time, a new south entrance to the building will be opened up and the fence location will shift to accommodate Phase II of construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we get this important project underway.

University Mail Center - Closure

The University Mail Center (window sales area only) will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, in observance to Veterans Day. All other services will remain open. The Mail Center will resume full service on Tuesday Nov. 12. Thank you, and we appreciate your business.

Cardinal Closet Now Accepting Donations

We're accepting shirts, shoes, pants, dresses, coats, ties, and more for the Cardinal Closet. Any donated undergarments (socks, bras, underwear) must be new and in packaging, or with tags. Donation drop-off times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Oct. 31, 2024. Drop-offs can be made at the Wesley Center, behind the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall.

2025 David J. Beck Fellowship/Scholarship

The 2025 David J. Beck Fellowship includes up to $10,000 in funding for a summer project (summer 2025).  These are full academic scholarships covering all tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. Fall 2025-Spring 2026 applications can be found in myScholarship.
