Exercise Science B.S.

Interested in becoming a physical or occupational therapist, an exercise physiologist, or a strength and conditioning specialist? Possibly your interests lie in working as a personal trainer, a coach or a fitness consultant. 

These are the types of careers that a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science can prepare you for. Our program offers both:

  • Fitness concentration
  • Pre-professional concentrations.

Fitness Concentrations

Earning an exercise science degree with a concentration in fitness can prepare you for careers in:

Business: This emphasis area is designed for students interested in business management. The courses may also serve as prerequisites for law school. This emphasis can lead to a minor in business.

Community and private recreation: This emphasis area is designed for students who desire an occupation in city, community (e.g., YMCA) or commercial based recreational centers. This emphasis can lead to a minor in kinesiology.

Nutrition: This emphasis area is designed for students interested in a background in nutrition for both educating and advising clients. This emphasis can lead to a minor in nutrition.

Athletic Training: This emphasis area is to be utilized in conjunction with participation in the athletic training internship program. The program is a preparatory program for the Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer exam or preparation for a Master’s in Athletic Training graduate program.

Pre-Professional Concentration

Pursuing an exercise science degree with a pre-professional concentration can prepare you to continue your education and work toward a career in an allied health care field or other professions. Potential directions include:

  • Cardiac or Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Pre-physical therapy
  • Pre-occupational therapy
  • Pre-physician assistant
  • Pre-medicine
  • Pre-law
  • Preparation for an M.S. in exercise science/physiology
  • Preparation for a Ph.D. in exercise science/physiology
