LU Esports Competes for the Win

ذكذكتسئµ Cardinal Esports League of Legends team beat Baylor University in a 5v5 tournament. The Cardinals won the first game, lost the second game and won the final game, winning the tournament 2-1.

The tournament scores and rankings for Cardinal Esports and other collegiate teams are posted on the Collegiate Starleague website (www.cstarleague.com). Cardinals Esports is currently 2-4 for the season, Esports ذكذكتسئµranking seventh, with more games scheduled in January.

Esports is a type of sport competition in the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions using popular, well-known games. One of the most popular games in Esports is League of Legends.

“League of Legends requires months to get to where you think you’re ready to compete; it’s not as easy as some of the other games,” said Dr. Tim Roden, the club’s faculty advisory. “As I was watching the first game, I was thinking, ‘yeah, we’re doing great, and the kids are having fun’ and I was really proud of them.”

Cardinals Esports currently has multiple teams training for several games that they compete in with other colleges, including League of Legends, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., Fortnite and Rocket League. The club has a Discord channel to keep in contact with each other and a Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/cardinalsesports) where they stream some of the games. Since the addition of the televisions around campus, the team will be streaming their games more frequently.

The League of Legends team only has four people. A fifth team member is needed. “Every Saturday the team has to rope in a fifth player from the club,” said Roden. “Students may think that you have to be like a superstar to join us, but you don’t. You just have to be somebody who wants to be competitive and are willing to get better. I think that’s the minimum.”

Esports meets, trains and competes in the lab space in the Maes Building which is equipped with the latest Dell Alienware computers. While League of Legends doesn’t have games until January, the other teams still have games. The Fortnite team has just qualified for the playoffs.
